Statistics on Domestic Violence

- 1 in 3 women globally
- 1 in 4 women in Europe
- 1 in 2 female murder victims are killed by their male partners, often during an on-going abusive relationship. (WHO 2013)
- Across Europe, one in four women experience domestic violence over their lifetimes and it is the major cause of death and disability for women aged 16 to 44, accounting for more death and illness than cancer and road accidents. (Council of Europe 2002)
- 46,137 helpline calls were answered by Domestic Violence services across Ireland
- 8,033 individual women received support from Domestic Violence Support Services
- More than 3,424 individual children received support from Domestic Violence services. (SAFE Ireland 2013)
