My second question at 16th of January’s MD meeting, ‘Can the council clarify if it accepted and confirmed surrender of the leases for the sports field at Rickardstown and outline a clear timeline for Sarsfields/Newbridge United to take possession of the land?

Here is the report issued by: Mr S Wallace, Senior Executive Parks Superintendent, Economic Community and Cultural Development Park. ‘The formal surrender of the lease for the sports field is pending the payment of outstanding rent by the Hockey Club and when this is complete the surrender can be completed by our solicitors. The completion of a lease to Sarsfield GAA and Newbridge United is pending the receipt of an agreement between the two clubs as to how they will jointly manage the facility. If the information relating to these matters can be forwarded by the relevant club then the council would expect to complete the new lease by the end of April. The land has also been subject to illegal encroachment and the resolution of this matter is being dealt with by our Housing Department.
