Fiona McLoughlin Healy’s Fun Family Fitness in association with Food Rebels has been a phenomenal success. Fiona’s campaign to get families in Kildare fit and healthy was officially launched 6 weeks ago by the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar T.D. The campaign saw various groups meeting once a week to do some kind of fitness activity under the expert guidance of the campaign’s fitness ‘leaders’, Fracas Foran in Kildare, Pa Tierney in Newbridge and Marty McEvoy in Athy. Hundreds of people joined Fiona McLoughlin Healy over the last 6 weeks to dance, skip, jump and walk, in a bid to have fun with their families whilst getting fit at the same time.
As a mother of three young children, Fiona Mcloughlin Healy is very mindful of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle, “I was really shocked when I learned that one in four Irish children are obese by the age of 3. I think it is our responsibility as adults and parents to start our children off on a life-long path to health and wellness. I am absolutely delighted that the Family Fun Fitness campaign in association with Food Rebels has been so successful and I particularly want to thank everybody that participated each week for the last 6 weeks and made this such an enjoyable experience. We are so pleased with the results and success of the campaign that we hope to run it as an annual event.”
The campaign was also a competition and the groups that consistently brought out the most walkers and participants each week were eligible to win €1,000, kindly sponsored by Berney’s Pharmacy Kilcullen. The group that won was Kildare Irish Figure Dancing Council. Speaking at the finals of the Family Fun Fitness event Abigail Duggan of Kildare Irish Figure Dancing Council said, “I am so over the moon to be honoured with this prize and as most of you are aware, we are a voluntary organisation so the €1,000 will go a long way towards rising insurance costs and will help replace trophies during the year. Massive thanks to Fiona McLoughlin Healy and Food Rebels Ireland for running the campaign and to Fracas Foran, Pa Tierney of Industrial Fitness Newbridge and Athy GAA for running brilliant activities each week. We are of course most grateful to Berney’s Pharmacy in Kilcullen for sponsoring the prize money. Well done too, to all our families who helped out and joined in, we had a blast!”
