The council use part of the monies allocated to the business incentive fund to incentivise the take up of vacant units in districts like Newbridge

My second motion was ‘that the council use part of the monies allocated to the business incentive fund to incentivise the take up of vacant units in districts like Newbridge where the vacancy rate is higher than the county average.

Report issued by Mary Foley, Administrative Officer, LEO and Eileen Hanlon, Head of Finance: As agreed at the budget meeting proposals for projects to be funded from the business development fund will be considered in the first instance by the Economic Development, Enterprise and Planning SPC who will make recommendations to the Council for their approval.

The Micro Enterprise Financial Support Instruments outline the general conditions that apply to grant aid. They do not support areas such as retail enterprises. The vacancy rate in the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District for 2014 was 28%, the average vacancy rate for the county was 30%. These vacancy percentages are based on the review and strike off of rates on properties vacant for year ended 31 December 2014
