Council clarify and confirm its ongoing commitment in terms of funding and resources in Rosconnell

My first motion at today’s Municipal District meeting, ‘That the Council clarify and confirm its ongoing commitment in terms of funding and resources in Rosconnell. Please include any plans for re-placing their community worker, plans to support the voluntary committee, funding for youth centre and educational programmes all of which have either been phased out or are under threat of being phased out.
Here is the report issued by: H Dowling, RAPID Co-ordinator, Community & Cultural Services. The community section has a dedicated community worker, Ms Doreen Daly for the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District area. As there are numerous council estates with the municipal district it is not possible to dedicate all her time to Rosconnell. Ms Daly has made contact with the committee in Rosconnell with a view to meeting to discuss supports and what assistance can be given by her. She is also working with a group trying to set up a youth cafe in the town which could be run from Rosconnell community buildings. She has arranged the grass cutting on the playing pitch and is working to ensure this is maintained into the future. The community section is meeting with Kildare Leader Partnership with a view to running training courses from the centre. Ms Daly will be working from the centre at least a half day each week and will be building the capacity of the groups in the area.
A request for LPT funding has been submitted to support actions in the Rosconnell area
