The Athy Southern Distributor Road, aimed at funneling chronic traffic congestion out of Athy, was first proposed 40 years ago and finally received the green light this week.
The funding for the Southern Distributor Road will be provided under the Capital Plan, and works will commence as soon as planning permission is in place. The AthyTown Development Plan 2012-2018 states that ‘the primary and overriding objective for all future development and progress in Athy has to be the construction of the Southern Distributor Road in the shortest time frame possible.’ I am therefore very glad to witness this recent development.
This is good news for the people of Kildare South and in particular Athy, who have had to suffer chronic traffic congestion along this route for decades. I will be working closely Kildare County Council to ensure the planning application is submitted without any further delay. Commuters can look forward to an easier journey to and from home in the near future.
